Don’t believe everything you see on Instagram
Social media doesn’t always show the whole picture. For example, as stunning as I appear on social media, I wish people knew that not only am I most comfortable in sweatpants and a sweatshirt but it’s when I feel the sexiest! So instead of following the flock, wear what you feel like and what makes you look best.
Become a keen observer
The one thing you can do for easily and effortlessly is to observe what other people are doing, if you see an outfit or look you really like, find out the key element that what is making it look phenomenal. Train your eye, over and again you will be able to get what will suit you the best.
Step out of your comfort zone
The only way to stand out in today’s fashion world is to do or create something of your own, a sense of style which denotes you and has been formed by you. Make it fun, but effective. Try and seek out new styles, colours and silhouettes that are outside of your typical comfort zone, all for the sake of research. As a beginner in this journey, you can do your best to speed up that process, but you still need to go through it.
Start with the basics
You can not become a fashion diva immediately, start from the ground level and keep it simple yet elegant. Your basics can be a classic pair of blue jeans, a cool white tee, nude pumps, some chic accessories. Start styling yourself with some basics and turn them into a look that would not look absurd on you.
Wear your favourite one’s in the starting
Instead of rushing to the store to buy new stuff, start styling yourself with what you already have. This might help you in understanding what actually looks good on you and what will not. As a first step, figure out what separates your favourites from the rest of your clothes, i.e. why you wear them more often. .Once you have defined what you like about your favourite pieces, you’ll be left with a detailed list of things that are all about you and your style. This will help you while you are out shopping. Since you have been wearing all of those things for a while already, there is a much lower risk that you’ll buy something that will end up un-worn at the back of your closet.
Stop Staring at your wardrobe for hours
It’s time to stop wondering! Decision fatigue is the result of making too many decisions during the course of the day. So don’t waste your time and brainpower in the morning trying to figure out what to wear, for hours. The best thing to do is to get rid of things you can’t or don’t wear regularly and simplify your wardrobe to pieces you like. Keep your clothing simple, so you will have the energy to tackle life’s tougher problems.
Invest Wisely
Many people think they can’t afford high-end style. But you’ll get more value if you spend your money on one good investment piece that you’ll use for years, like a cool bag, instead of wasting money on multiple pieces that aren’t classic. This way you can really save money for that one thing you really like instead of investing in so many which are of no use to you.
Consider the Wear and Care
Before you buy, try to gauge how a piece might hold up after a few washings. And don’t shell out for clothes you can’t, or won’t, take to the dry cleaners. If you know you’ll never hand-wash that embellished sweater or fancy t-shirt, walk away. As it takes time and effort to maintain all those fancy things in your wardrobe, go for them only if you can actually take care of them everytime you wear them.
Make a List
Not of what you want to buy, but of the 10 fave items in your closet. This will help you zero in on pieces that mesh with what you own (or remind you that you never actually wear big floral prints).
Check the Inside
A garment’s lining is often a designer’s calling card, and a good way to judge quality. A well-crafted lining is a sign that the whole piece has been sewn with care.
Follow the Fashion rules
Your personal style should suit your lifestyle, mood, and resources but don’t feel like you have to break the rules to create a unique personal style. The classics are called ‘classic’ for good reason.
Always Check Out the Rear View
And don’t leave the house until you like what you see in the mirror. Every angle matters.
Don’t go with the trends
Regardless of what’s trending at the moment, try to stay true to yourself. Know what you look good in and what you like and stick to that.
We hope these styling tips will help you out even if you don’t have a personal stylist around you, we hope you found this article helpful and we wish you all the best in your styling endeavours!
